Raja Ampat Dive Resorts
Sorido Bay Resort (Papua Diving)
Sorido Bay Resort is situated in the heart of Raja Ampat, home to some of the world’s most amazing dive sites. This resort offers a touch of luxury, nestled in lush green jungle, overlooking a turquoise blue lagoon.
With just 7 spacious ensuite cottage rooms, offering high levels of comfort, you are staying in a remote paradise, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature and just metres away from diving in our world’s most biodiverse waters!
On Kri Island, you can immerse yourself in nature and find wild orchids, monitor lizards, furry marsupial Cuscus, tropical birds such as Lorikeets, Eclectus Parrots, and Paradise Kingfishers. You might even spot a Tree Kangaroo or Sugar Glider!
Hotel Services/Facilities: The resort offers extremely comfortable rooms, and you can expect a high level of service but with low-key resort facilities.
The main building houses the ocean view dining area, a lounge with a TV and DVD player, a library, a water dispenser, and a small museum. A computer is available for guests to use, and there is free Wi-Fi in public areas and all rooms. There is also a free guest laundry service and a small souvenir shop.
Most guests are serious divers who like to spend the majority of their time underwater, followed by relaxing in the calm, natural surroundings during surface intervals.
Food, Beverage & Entertainment Facilities: You can look forward to a range of international cuisine and Indonesian specialties. The food is served buffet-style with a choice of salads, pasta, and rice dishes, as well as meat, seafood, and curries. Appetisers are served half an hour before dinner and desserts are created by the in-house pâtissier.
A cooked breakfast including eggs, home-made bread, fresh fruit, and some traditional Indonesian breakfast dishes is served every day, with freshly squeezed fruit juice, tea and coffee.
If you have special dietary requirements, please confirm these at the time of booking.
Transfers: Kri Island is accessible by boat from Sorong on the mainland (Southwest Papua). The boat journey takes approximately 2 hours.
The resort’s seven guest cottages are all ensuite with high ceilings and wooden floors. They are stylish and spacious, whilst maintaining a light ecological footprint.
5 Sentai cottages, with twin or double beds.
2 Kaimana cottages that can be configured as double, triple or quadruple-share. These cottages have extra living space.
All cottages offer king-sized beds (a single bed can be added on request), air-conditioning with individual controls and electric fan, private bathroom with hot water shower, towels, hairdryer, toiletries, balcony with deck chairs, satellite TV, minibar, bedside lights, personal safe, desk and chair, wardrobe, and free guest laundry service.
Sorido Bay Resort’s dive centre facilities are ample and spacious. Nitrox is offered free of charge (if qualified), there is a shower on the jetty, decent equipment storage, and a camera table with rinse tank. 12 litre tanks are included as standard on all dives and the dive centre has emergency oxygen and a first aid pack.
There’s virtually no need for guests to carry anything and the dive centre staff are always happy to wash your scuba gear and store it in the equipment room. We recommend you take your own equipment since scuba rental supply is limited and there are no wetsuits to hire.
You will be diving in and around the magnificent Dampier Strait, an area of Raja Ampat that’s so good, liveaboards travel hundreds of miles for sites on Kri Eco Resort’s doorstep! This is the world’s most biodiverse marine region with more recorded fish, coral, and mollusc species than anywhere else on the planet! 30+ dive sites are within a 10km radius of Kri Island, including Cape Kri, Manta Sandy, Blue Magic and Sardines.
The Unlimited Diving Package allows divers the freedom to explore and dive the extraordinary house reef to their heart’s content, 7 days a week.
Boat dives are available with just 1 – 15 minute trip times and you are back at the resort for your surface interval to refresh and relax in comfort.
Two morning boat dives are offered (departing 0700-0800) with the boat returning to the resort after dive one, followed by one afternoon boat dive, and an optional sunset or night dive. Snacks are available on half day trips, lunch on full day trips, with towels and fresh water provided on all trips. Trips to dive sites further afield can be arranged locally at an additional cost.
Eco-catamarans with small twin 40HP engines and faster speed boats (for dive sites at a greater distance) are made locally from fibreglass. Each boat carries up to six divers, with a skipper and two dive staff, ample equipment storage, ladders, shade, and oxygen kits.
Snorkelling at Sorido Bay is outstanding! The reefs in front of and close to the resort are part of Cape Kri and are some of the best in the world. Turtles and sharks are almost always guaranteed, and it’s not uncommon to snorkel with schools of big bumphead parrotfish. You will be blown away by the amount, size and variety of fish and corals. Many dive sites are also accessible for snorkellers.
Dive Facts: Located close to the equator and protected by many mountainous islands, Kri Island benefits from a microclimate, with high humidity, occasional tropical rainfall but no particular dry or rainy season. Diving and snorkelling in the Dampier Strait is good all year round.
Summer months can be windier, and underwater visibility tends to be better at this time of the year. Currents are a constant and will always be a factor when planning dives.
Water temperature is a constant 28 or 29 degrees celsius, and most guests choose to dive with a 3mm full suit.
High season is October to April, when underwater visibility is influenced by high plankton concentrations, guaranteeing many pelagic encounters. Generally, underwater visibility ranges between 15-30 metres.
