RAJA AMPAT DIVE RESORTS
Kusu Island Resort
A luxurious retreat in remote South Halmahera, Kusu Island Resort offers visitors an exclusive dive holiday experience with untouched, pristine reefs.
A tropical paradise for watersports enthusiasts, divers, snorkellers and nature lovers alike, Kusu Island Resort is in the heart of the Coral Triangle. Guests will be awed by the incredible marine life, and can also explore the island’s stunning topside scenery.
The resort consists of just eight luxurious Ocean Villas, built on stilts over the sea to reduce the impact on the island’s vegetation, with their own suntrap terrace and private access to the beach. Nestled between mangroves and coral reefs, the handcrafted villas offer guests a peaceful, perfect retreat set amongst the natural beauty of the island.
This tranquil, secluded island resort offers guests a truly relaxing and unforgettable holiday experience with attentive service, world class diving and snorkelling, and more.
Hotel Services/Facilities: The resort consists of eight luxury Ocean Villas, built on stilts over the sea, each with its own terrace and private beach access.
Resort facilities include a magnificent house reef for divers and snorkellers, a white sandy beach, and a watersports and dive centre that offers a full range of SSI and PADI courses (on request). There is also a well-equipped camera room, a restaurant serving traditional and international dishes, and a lounge bar (soft drinks only).
If you want to take a day off from diving or snorkelling, the resort offers a wide range of attractive activities. Book on a land excursion to go bird watching, visit a local market and village, or have fun on a traditional kayaking tour. If you’d rather stay in the resort for some relaxing time out, spa and wellness treatments are available, either in the privacy of your room or out on your spacious deck.
Food, Beverage & Entertainment Facilities: All guests at Kusu Island Resort are booked on a full board basis, with three main meals, morning and afternoon fruits and snacks, and coffee, tea and water freely available.
The restaurant and lounge area is built on stilts and extends over the sea, so you can enjoy magnificent ocean views at mealtimes. The ‘relax area’ of the restaurant is open all day. This is the ideal spot to enjoy a cup of tea, coffee, or a fruit cocktail while gazing out at the ocean or watching to see if it is a shark or ray that swims by next.
Meals are served three times a day. Afternoon tea is served with fresh baked delicacies. Coffee, tea, and fresh fruit are available at any time of the day. Please let us know about special dietary requirements at time of booking so we can let the resort know, so they can do their best to meet your needs.
Soft drinks, fruit cocktails and a limited selection of beer and wine is available for purchase. If guests are likely to want to drink their own brands of alcohol, they recommend guests bring their own wines and spirits with them.
With no evening entertainment or a busy town close by, after a relaxing dinner, all you need to do is relax some more with a refreshing drink and interesting conversation.
Transfers: Ideally, your international flights should land in Manado. The direct domestic flight from Manado to Labuha or Manado via Ternate to Labuha is then close to a 2.5-hour flight. Depending on your international flight arrival, we might need to book you in a hotel near Manado airport for one night.
On arrival at Labuha airport, you will be met by resort staff who will accompany you on a car ride from the airport to the small port of Babang which takes approximately 20 minutes. After a relaxing 40-minute boat ride to the resort, your holiday can truly begin. The friendly staff will serve you a delicious welcome drink before guiding you to your luxurious Ocean Villa.
Diverse Travel will research all flight options and prepare a tailor-made itinerary to ensure a relaxing start to your holiday.

Indonesia is home to more than 17,000 islands, all hosts to the most diverse marine life on earth.
Kusu Island Resort has a magnificent, private house reef for guests to snorkel and dive to their heart’s content, where you will encounter an amazing amount of colourful reef fish, baby sharks and turtles. With over 3,000 fish species and 600 coral species, all kinds of nudibranchs and other fantastic critters, Kusu Island has one of the largest diversities in the area.
The reefs surrounding Kusu Island are virtually untouched and brimming with marine life and world class diving. With plenty of spectacular dive sites to choose from for all experience levels, Kusu Island is a diver’s dream come true.
Pulau Kusu, as Kusu Island is called in the local language, is surrounded by a dazzling fringing reef. Recently, the government introduced a 5-mile marine protection zone around Pulau Kusu and the neighbouring islands. Commercial fishing boats are not allowed to enter the area.
Inside this protected area, the amazing underwater world offers everything one can imagine, from big fish, like tuna, dolphins, whales, mantas and sharks, to large schools of fish, down to macro critters like pygmy seahorses. The reefs are teeming with life and host hard coral gardens, lush colourful soft corals and gorgonians. The seascape offers walls, slopes, caverns, caves, overhangs, sea grass beds and underwater pinnacles.
Experienced divers can enjoy adrenaline-filled drift dives, while relaxing dives on coral gardens teeming with reef fish are for all divers to appreciate. This underwater heaven is a paradise for underwater photographers, videographers and free divers. At least 40 known dive and snorkelling sites can be reached in less than 15 minutes by boat, many of them located directly along the fringing reef of Pulau Kusu.
There are many well-known dive destinations around the globe but what sets Kusu Island apart from all others is its exclusivity. Prepare to be amazed at newly discovered, spectacular and undamaged reefs, with no other divers for miles and dive sites right on the island’s doorstep.
The Dive and Watersports Centre is conveniently located at the end of the jetty with easy access to the magnificent house reef. There is a camera room, personal equipment storage area, inside and outdoor lounge area to relax, a small souvenir shop, four freshwater wash basins, cold showers and toilets.
When joining the boat trips, you will receive your own personal water bottle and fresh towels for the day. A limited amount of snorkelling and diving rental equipment is available, so please tell us what you will need at time of booking.
A range of SSI and PADI Dive Courses are available but must be pre-booked to ensure the instructors are available.
