Alor Tanapi Dive Resort

Hotel Services/Facilities: Alor Tanapi Dive Resort has just six guest bungalows, allowing for a maximum capacity of 12 guests. The resort is intimate and comfortable, while offering maximum space around guest rooms, public spaces and the ocean.

Resort facilities include a well-equipped dive centre that offers a range of PADI courses (pre-booking required), an inviting restaurant and lounge with stunning views of the (extinct) volcanic islands of Ternate and Pura, where guests can eat tasty meals, gather to swap stories, play games, or just relax.

Various half and full-day land excursions are available to book for those wishing to experience the spellbinding culture or breathtaking scenery of this amazing region.

Food, Beverage & Entertainment Facilities: All guests are booked on a Full Board basis, with or without a diving package.

The dining and lounge areas offer stunning views overlooking the Pantar Strait. From here, you can watch the sun as it sets behind Pantar island every evening.

Three main meals are included each day, all freshly prepared by the chef using locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. Enjoy a variety of authentic Indonesian dishes, all bursting with flavour. Inspiration for the menus ia drawn from recipes that span across Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and internationally, to create delicious, homemade meals.

Snacks are available in the afternoon or early evening, with free-flowing coffee, tea and drinking water all day.

The lounge area has a couple of comfortable sofas and is connected to the restaurant, sharing the same beautiful views across the Pantar Strait.

The resort bar is here too, serving refreshing cocktails and local beers. There is also a small library for guests with various books on marine life, fish identification and other reading materials.

Transfers: Guests arrive at Alor Mali Airport* (ARD). A driver from the resort will be waiting for you and the drive to Alor Tanapi Dive Resort takes approximately one hour.

* The most direct routes to get to Alor Mali Airport are via Bali or Jakarta. From Bali or Jakarta, to reach Alor, flights transit through Kupang airport (KOE). There are daily flights to Kupang (KOE) and from Kupang there is a daily flight to Alor Mali Airport.

Hillside Standard Bungalow: The Hillside Standard Bungalow has a king-size bed with mosquito net, desk and wardrobe, a private terrace with sofa chairs, an open-air bathroom with an outdoor hot water shower, a western-style sink and western-style toilet. The bungalow is air-conditioned and there is a fan in the room. No single surcharge applies on the hillside standard bungalow.

Oceanfront Standard Bungalows: The Oceanfront Standard Bungalows have a king-size bed with mosquito net, desk and wardrobe, a private, spacious terrace with sofas and a hammock, open-air bathrooms with an outdoor hot water shower, western-style sinks and western-style toilets. The bungalows are air-conditioned and there is a fan in each room.

Seaview Deluxe Bungalows: The Seaview Deluxe Bungalows have a king-size bed with mosquito net, a private, spacious terrace with sofas and a hammock, open-air bathrooms with an outdoor hot water shower, double vanity units and western-style toilets. The bungalows are air-conditioned and there is a fan in each room. These rooms include a minibar, a daybed and additional wardrobe space.

Oceanfront Deluxe Bungalow: The Oceanfront Deluxe Bungalow has a king-size bed with mosquito net, a private, spacious terrace with sofas and a hammock, an open-air bathroom with an outdoor hot water shower, a double vanity unit and a western-style toilet. The bungalow is air-conditioned and there is a fan in the room. This room includes a minibar, a daybed and additional wardrobe space.

Please note: Deluxe Bungalows can accommodate a third guest if the guest is a child aged 10-15, sharing the room with their parents. For triple occupancy, the child will receive a 25% discount off the published rates for accommodation or dive-and-stay packages. Please note that the minimum age accepted at the resort is 10 years.

Located in the heart of the Coral Triangle, diving in Alor is some of the best in Indonesia. The area is renowned for its amazing visibility, stunning coral reefs, pelagic encounters, and small, bizarre critters in the muck dive sites.

Alor Tanapi Dive Resort is situated in an area with strong underwater currents, so the dive centre is not able to offer any house reef diving. The resort is however just 30 to 45-minutes boat ride away from more than 40 dive sites.

It is also possible to do day trips to some dive sites located in the South of Alor or the South of Pantar such as Beang Abang which offers some great muck diving. We recommend a minimum stay of one to two weeks to be able to cover the full range of dive sites.

Divers are attracted to Alor for the diversity of dive sites available within a such a small area. Large pelagics such as mola sunfish, whales, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, and thresher sharks can sometimes be seen in the Pantar Strait. In addition to the beautiful coral walls and caves, Kalabahi Bay’s black sandy bottom offers some great muck diving. Two species of rhinopias are found in Alor, as well as a wide range of critters including blue-ringed octopus, wonderpus, harlequin shrimp and ghost pipefish to name just a few. Some iconic sites in Alor include ‘Bama Wall’, a beautiful steep drop off covered in corals and home to many resident colourful reef fish. ‘Mucky Mosque’ for the macro lovers, and ‘Current Alley’ for some pelagic encounters.

Visibility ranges from 15 metres during and around the rainy season; to up to an impressive 40 metres in the dry season (June to October). The topography of the dive sites consists mainly of walls and slopes. The dive sites are located within a marine park where only local fishermen are allowed to fish.

The dive centre at Alor Tanapi Dive Resort is spacious and well-equipped with modern facilities, ensuring your diving experience is seamless and hassle-free. Experienced dive instructors and dive guides provide comprehensive briefings, equipment checks, and offer a personalised service, with guest’s safety and comfort as their number one priority. The dive centre teaches a range of PADI courses and specialities.

There is a dedicated camera room at the dive centre for photographers and videographers, with ample room in the bungalows to keep your equipment. There is a TV screen in the main restaurant-lounge area to view photos and videos, and the dive centre also provides camera-only rinse buckets.

The Pantar Strait is renowned for its unpredictable currents, therefore we recommend having at least 100 dives and feeling comfortable with drift diving if you would like to be able to fully enjoy the range of dive sites that Alor has to offer.

We recommend planning your stay to align with the lunar cycles, ensuring optimal conditions for your dives. If you are adventurous, like currents, and are eager to encounter larger marine life, booking around the new moon and full moon can provide exhilarating encounters.
