Located on the local island of Dhigurah (Maldivian for ‘long island’), this hotel is in the famous whale shark area of South Ari Atoll. A government protected marine area, you can see WHALE SHARKS & MANTA RAYS here every day!
This delightful ‘All Inclusive’ hotel was designed and built by a British diver, with a primary focus to offer guests the opportunity to meet wonderful marine wildlife, while experiencing the real Maldives, amongst friendly, local people who are happy to share their island and their way of life, for an economical price.
The 3km beach is perfect for evening walks and watching the beautiful sunsets. Alcohol is not available on the island, but a trip to another island, just 10 minutes away, will make a perfect excursion. Bikini sunbathing is allowed in front of the resort.
In-room camera workstations make this the perfect option for underwater photographers.
Hotel Services/Facilities: Reception, laundry service (local charge), main restaurant, rooftop restaurant. On-site dive centre. Camera stations in all guest rooms. FREE Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
Food, Beverage & Entertainment Facilities: All-inclusive meal plan, with unlimited soft drinks, local juices, tea and coffee. Buffet Breakfast, with live-cooking stations and grills at Lunch and Dinner, catering for all international tastes. A projector with screen is found in the lounge area, for divers to share their underwater experiences. Island sports, cooking lessons, night fishing, sunset cruises and barbecues on uninhabited islands can be booked locally at extra cost. Visits to nearby resorts who offer alcohol and spa facilities can be arranged on request.
Six large ’boutique style’ guest rooms have balconies or private gardens. Complete with open air showers, large, comfortable (hand-made) beds with deep back support mattresses, luxurious cotton sheets and comfortable pillows. The bathroom features Habitat towels and free Molton Brown bathroom accessories.
All guest bedrooms have a camera workstation and each day, guests can meet in the lounge area to review films and photos taken that day with the dive team.
5* PADI dive centre.
Up to 3 dives a day, and a maximum of 4/5 divers per dive guide. Night dives are on request. Full day trips, with lunch and soft drinks included, are organised to look for whale sharks or go to manta cleaning stations in season.
The dive boat Captain has over 20 years spotting whale sharks and always drops divers in the best place to observe them at close quarters. He can find each one of the 15 thilas (deep channel reefs full of marine life with both hard and soft corals) without GPS, and knows how to drop divers in, so they can drift slowly and calmly towards them. No fast and negative entry descents.
Marine life includes whale sharks, mantas, mobula rays, eagle ray schools, sail fish, grey reef sharks, silver tip sharks, guitar sharks and turtles. Find many different nudibranch, frog fish, leaf fish, mantis shrimps, long nose hawk fish, ghost pipe fish and of course huge schools of batfish.
The centre has Nitrox; well-maintained dive equipment is available to hire, BCDs, regulators, computers as well as masks and fins which are FREE to anyone booking a package. Reef hooks are available, and training is also available for anyone new to the joy of cruising the current!
