Diving in the Maldives is world-renowned for its crystal-clear waters, abundant marine life, and diverse underwater landscapes. The region offers a mix of drift dives, pinnacles (thilas), channels, coral reefs, and wrecks, suited for all experience levels. Divers can expect encounters with mantas, whale sharks, reef sharks, turtles, and massive schools of fish, especially during seasonal currents.
Divided into many atolls, each with its own dive highlights, the Maldives has something to offer for every diver. Strong currents in channels are common and attract pelagics, while sheltered reefs offer vibrant coral gardens. Water temperatures range from 27–30°C (80–86°F) year-round, and visibility often exceeds 20 meters (65 feet).
Spirit Liveaboards believe that a diverse range of itineraries is key to providing guests with the most immersive and fulfilling diving experience possible.
The captain and crew have many years of experience operating in the Maldives and this has enabled them to curate a selection of itineraries to more remote and tranquil areas. While they can provide a good indication of where the itinerary will visit, each trip may vary slightly if the weather changes its course and the underwater currents shift, taking the marine life with it.
All diving is conducted from a custom-built dive dhoni—a smaller, fully equipped boat that carries all dive gear, compressors, and tanks. The dhoni drops divers directly at dive sites and picks them up afterward, providing flexibility and precision.
Number of dives: 7-night trip – up to 17 dives, 9-night trip – up to 23 dives, 10-night trip – up to 26 dives, 12-night trip – up to 32 dives, 14-night trip – up to 38 dives.
