Gansbaai
Welcome to the Great White capital.
Gansbaai is one of the best places in the world to see (and dive with) the great white sharks in their natural habitat. Dyer Island, with its abundant marine life and rare pelagic bird species, is home to thousands of seals and a constant food source for the sharks. Cage dives take place in the infamous Shark Alley, a narrow strip of sea between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock.
Being only two hours by road from Cape Town, it’s possible to do this as a day-trip although we do recommend spending at least one night in Kleinbaai/Gansbaai to give yourself the chance to enjoy more than just one cage dive, increasing your shark-spotting opportunity.
Diving
In and around Cape Town there is also very good diving, including kelp diving to see the rare 7-gill cow shark, the ever playful seals, wrecks and ‘Big Blue’ dives to view the open ocean mako and blue sharks. The waters can be cold, but top quality equipment rental is included to ensure comfort levels are at their best.
