Great White Cage Diving with Apex Predators

Cape Town, South Africa
Hotel Arena Inn

Possibly the main reason for divers visiting Cape Town is the exciting chance to go cage diving with the iconic great white shark. Entering the water for a personal encounter with the shark-king of the sea is on just about every diver’s bucket list. From the security of a cage, you are safely just a few feet away from the biggest adrenalin rush in one of the world’s top-rated shark sites.

The False Bay/Cape Town cage diving season runs from February to September:

  • Feb to Apr: Shark cage diving and a possibility to witness scavenge events
  • May to Sep: Breaching, natural predation and shark cage diving

The rest of the year you can cage dive in Gansbaai, about two hours’ drive from Cape Town. Gansbaai has a year-round season and is a prime location for cage diving worldwide.

False Bay | Apex Predators Shark Expeditions

Apex Shark Expeditions is a licensed shark cage diving tour operator. Their boat White Pointer II is specially designed for shark cage diving, with great look-out areas both inside the cabin and on deck. There is easy access for divers entering and exiting the cage. Groups are of no more than 12 guests, with no more than 5 divers in the cage at any one time, allowing each person excellent viewing opportunities as Apex Predators share their knowledge and passion for these creatures.

Quayside Hotel, Simon’s Town

This 4-star waterfront hotel is uniquely situated on the edge of the Simon’s Town yacht basin and has incredible views over False Bay and the Simonkloof mountains.

Simon’s Town is an historic village. The main St Georges Street is the coastal road running through the town framed by quaint shops, restaurants, pubs and colonial buildings, all within easy walking distance of the centrally located Quayside Hotel.

Rooms are modern, plush, comfortable and with a nautical theme with mountain and sea views. All are ensuite, with air-con, satellite TVs, mini-bar, tea/coffee and WiFi. Breakfasts are served overlooking the ocean from the Upper Deck Restaurant.

Due to its prime location, the Quayside Hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the area. For Great White Shark Cage Diving, Apex Predators is on site, whilst for other dives (seven gills, blue and mako, seals etc.), our preferred scuba diving centre is a few minutes up the road and the largest penguin colony a few minutes stroll down to Boulders Beach.
