Kubu Indah Dive & Spa Resort, Kubu (Tulamben)Bali, Indonesia
Kubu, on the north east coast, is very close to one of Bali’s most iconic dive sites. About two and a half hours’ drive from Denpasar airport, here you’ll find very little to disturb you. This is a year-round dive destination offering either beach or “jukung” diving (by local outrigger boat). The dive centre offers diving on many sites in the three areas of Kubu, Tulamben and Amed and even offers regular trips to Manta Point on Nusa Penida Island. Divers are also allowed to dive independent in buddy pairs on 4 dive sites directly from Kubu Indah Resort, with a house reef directly in front of the resort.
Three kilometres to the South of Kubu is Tulamben village, which is literally a few dive resorts interspersed by a local convenience store or two and a couple of cafés. In Tulamben just across the volcanic beach is a lovely coral garden and drop-off. There are also several critter sites where you can see and photograph rare species such as harlequin shrimp, rhinopias scorpionfish and flamboyant cuttlefish.
Tulamben’s most famous diving attraction is a coral-covered wreck lying thirty metres from the shore; the ‘USAT Liberty’, a 120-metre cargo ship that went down in 1942 during World War Two after being torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. She’s now completely coral-covered, lying at perfect diving depth and home to many species of reef fish. It’s an incredibly photogenic wreck and extremely accessible straight from the beach, including night dives.
