Dive & Yoga

Benefits of adding yoga to your diving:

  • breathing exercises improve lung capacity and assists better buoyancy
  • focusing on breathing as you move trains you to always breathe
  • destress, reduce anxiety and blood pressure on the surface as well as below it
  • relaxing your mind allows you to take in more on your dive
  • physically get prepared for the dives with strengthening and lengthening poses
  • reduce injury, sooth sore backs and legs from carrying heavy dive gear

Get the best out of yoga and diving and breathe in the experience that will stay with you long after the tan has faded, and the wetsuit has dried.

Meet Jodie and Benito

Jodie:  PADI MSDT, SSI DCSI, RYT E-250 (vinyasa, hatha, children’s yoga)

Lived and taught diving in Thailand, Australia and Bali for over 8 years. Discovered Yoga in Thailand and loved the way it complemented her underwater life, finding the same peace on the mat as she found underwater. Jodie lives to teach and is known for her personable, approachable style with affirmations, a few jokes and a promise to make you feel incredible in body and mind. After leaving Bali with Benito, she now teaches yoga full time in Munich, Germany. She also co-founded a 5* surf and yoga retreat in Portugal attracting the only 5-star reviews on Trip Advisor.

Benito: PADI OWSI, 5 specialities including Sidemount instructor, MBRS/Mindfulness practitioner

Started diving in German lakes and found it the perfect antidote to his corporate role in IT sales. Diving is his ultimate way to leave the stress on the surface and uphold his work life balance. Benito took a sabbatical in Indonesia for 18 months and became a highly qualified instructor (and critter geek), as well as investing in marine conservation programmes. In Germany, he uses mindfulness techniques and yoga to get out of the office and top up his state of mind.

FAQ

Can you do yoga after diving?

Yes. We do gentle, restorative post-dive yoga designed with off-gassing in mind. We wait two hours after diving before our session and avoid jumping, load bearing and anything strenuous (we save the more dynamic style for the mornings when we are nitrogen free).

I’ve never done yoga; can I still do it?

Jodie loves teaching beginners! As someone who couldn’t touch her toes for years, she teaches with empathy, humour and genuine warmth. Jodie’s instructions are clear and encouraging. You’ll be amazed at what your body and mind can achieve.

Can I skip any of it?

Of course! It’s your holiday and if you don’t want to dive then don’t. If you’d rather have a sunset beer, you can. We practice down-dogs, not dogmatism.

I’m a solo traveller, can I still come?

Absolutely. You can either share a cabin with someone of the same sex or you can treat yourself to a private cabin for 50% more. We’ve made some life-long friends by sharing and you can too.

I’m not a diver but my friend/partner is. What can I do when everyone is diving?

You can still enjoy being under the beautiful blue, surrounded by the beauty of the ocean and go swimming, snorkelling or even try a dive. Take some well-deserved time for you and discover the forgotten art of relaxing.
